
Cycling smarts – a pilot project bringing bike skills and road safety to elementary schools
STSWR plays a supporting role in a pilot project by The Working Centre and The City of Waterloo that delivers road safety and bike handling skills to grade 5 classes.

Program Structure:
- Bike fleet and helmets provided by The Working Centre
- Student-owned bikes reviewed for road worthiness
- Students learn:
- Road safety rules and best practices
- Parts of the bike and a pre-ride maintenance check
- How to balance, turn, stop, and start with confidence
- How to safely signal and shoulder check while riding
- How to be aware of surroundings on residential streets
- To follow a route in an urban environment
