The winning guard gets bragging rights, a custom Yeti mug proclaiming their award, and a Tim Horton’s gift card to fill that mug up.
The way it works:
Anyone can nominate an outstanding Crossing Guard they know, using the link below by Friday May 15 at midnight.
Nominations will be considered along with information from crossing guard supervisors by a selection committee and shortlisted during Crossing Guard Appreciation week.
A winner will be announced on June 13 2026!

Crossing Guard Appreciation Week
June 1-5, 2026
School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week is a five-day province-wide event that honours School Crossing Guards for the essential protection they provide in our communities. STSWR is working with area Townships and Cities to create a heightened awareness of our hometown heroes because they help to make active travel an easier choice for Waterloo region families.
Nominations for Crossing Guard of the Year are open from April 7 – May 15, 2026. One guard from the nominations collected in the spring will be selected and recognized as Crossing Guard of the Year during School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week.
Use the resources below to show your guard you care, and regard the laws & guidelines that keep them – and children – out of danger!
