CAA Bus & Standing Foot Patrol
Mentors are essential to the success of the CAA School Safety Patrol Program. They should attend September training to understand the program and be prepared to support students. Mentors are encouraged to hold regular meetings to discuss challenges, provide guidance, and recognize student efforts. Displaying a patrol board with shift schedules and announcements can help keep students organized.
In February or March, mentors are required to show the CAA refresher video (separate videos for Bus and Foot Patrollers). Ongoing motivation can be supported through small rewards, public recognition, and leadership opportunities.
STSWR Trailblazers
Trailblazer Mentors help foster leadership and safety awareness within their school community. Mentors play an important role in supporting Trailblazer training and development, similar to the CAA program. Mentors should understand the training modules as led by STSWR at the school site in September each year, as students may ask related questions of them.
Mentors should check in regularly with student Trailblazers, address any challenges, and encourage consistent participation. A bulletin board with schedules and reminders is helpful, and student motivation can be maintained through school-based recognition or simple rewards like thank-you notes or certificates.
Mentors may also request special visits from STSWR STP Planners throughout the year as needed. Contact your STP Planner or Leslie_Maxwell@stswr.ca.
