CAA & Trailblazer School Safety Patrol

What’s new for 2021/22

STSWR is happy to announce we are able to offer the CAA Foot and Bus Patrol program as well as the Trailblazer program for the 2021-2022 school year despite Covid-19 restrictions, because we believe these safety programs work. The delivery of these programs has been adapted to avoid large groups and to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

CAA

CAA Training dates are below (rain or shine), session times are 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM & 2:00 PM.

Kitchener & Wilmot – October 4, 6 & 8

Waterloo & Woolwich – October 12, 13 & 15

Cambridge & North Dumfries – 18, 20 & 22

CAA has provided a hybrid model that allows for the facilitation of training to occur at each school. Patrol supervisors must access training videos prior to CAA Training Dates. On site (in your school yard) training will be provided by our friends at Waterloo Region Police Services.

The CAA hybrid model:

  • Allows the coordinator to show videos on their schedule before training
  • Eliminates travel time for training sessions but requires school scheduling around possible nutrition breaks and recess.
  • Can be delivered maintaining social distancing in an outdoor space
  • Provides an opportunity for student leadership
  • Demonstrates commitment to student safety

If you are interested in taking part in the CAA bus and/or foot patrol program, please read the CAA attachment that details your next steps to participate in the program this year. Once registered with the CAA website, please fill out the STSWR Google Form so we can schedule a date and time for your school (Deadline September 30, 2021). Trailblazers

The Trailblazer “student walking expert” program has been adapted for online delivery this year. Please read the attached outline of duties and fill out the STSWR Google Form to confirm your interest in participating. Training and testing materials can be found at stswr.ca/walkzone/programs/trailblazers/.

We realize this is a change from past years, but the ability to support our student leaders while providing an effective safety intervention was too good to pass up. Thank you for your continued interest in these important safety programs.
